The Suva Zone 2 starts today at the ANZ Stadium with defending boys champion Marist Brothers High School aiming to defend their title.

Marist won last year with 34 gold, 26 silver, and 20 bronze while Suva Grammar School settled for second place with 17 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze.

Two Marist athletes you can look out for are defending Coke Games intermediate boys 200 metres champion, Lasarusa Senibale who is expected to run in the senior boys 100 metres, 200 metres and 4x100 metres.

Martin Iokoba who clocked 49.10 seconds in the senior boys 400 metres race during their inter-house competition is also aiming to break Kameli Sauduadua’s record of 47.47 seconds in the Coca Cola Games in April.

School head of PEMAC Department, Pena Qalituraga says the athletes are gearing up to be the best when they reach the finals, and Iokobo and Senibale are strong medal contenders.

Suva Grammar School are still under the guidance of former Pacific sprint king Jone Delai are keeping a low profile.

Delai says the last 3 years has been about developing athletes and they will showcase these athletes today.

Suva Grammar School is the defending champion of the girls division in the Suva Zone and they are expected to face tough competition from Saint Josephs Secondary School.

The Suva Zone 2 will start at 8.30 this morning at the ANZ Stadium.
