Suva Women defends Senior Marama Championship trophy after 31-29 win over Namosi

The Suva Women's Senior rugby side has defended their ANZ Marama Championship trophy after edging Namosi 31-29 in the final this afternoon.

Suva drew first blood with a converted try to lock Priscilla Siata for a 7-0 lead before Namosi came back and scored an unconverted try in the corner through left winger Josivini Neihamu to trail 7-5.

Suva extended their lead to 12-5 after number 8 Alisi Qalo scored an unconverted try before Namosi's right winger Filomena Niulele scored another unconverted try at the stroke of halftime to trail Suva 12-10 at the break.

Suva scored 3 more tries in the second half through Makereta Tunidau, Qalo, who scored her second try and Teresia Tinanivalu along with two conversions to lead 31-10.

Namosi came back and scored two tries through Cikavira Toabau and Loata Vakausausa with a conversion to trail 31-22.

Niulele scored her second try for Namosi with a successful conversion at the stroke of fulltime but was not enough as Suva claimed the win.

Meanwhile, Suva Women's U20 won the ANZ Marama Championship U20 competition after beating Nadi 27-15 in the final this morning.

The Skipper Cup Men's U20 final between Naitasiri and Nadroga is currently underway.

The main final of the Senior Men's Skipper Cup between Suva and Nadroga will kick off at 3pm.
