Studying in candlelight and by using lamps during rainy weather has paid off for Shaniska Saiyogita Prasad of Ahmadiyya Muslim College in Dreketi as she has received the Dux award for this year.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Prasad says in their remote area of Dreketi, there is no electricity and network so they rely on solar power.

She says there were also days when she had to study in candlelight and lamps as heavy rain did not allow them to use solar lights.

The student says she is happy to have made her parents proud, who were always encouraging her to study hard.

He had helped her with Maths and Physics while she also took afternoon and Saturday revision classes for English and Maths.

Prasad scored the highest marks in Maths, English, Chemistry and Biology.

She aims to be a doctor because she wants to save lives.
