Soldier charged with unlawful and indecent assault further remanded in custody

A soldier who has been charged with unlawfully and indecently assaulting escaped prisoner, Iowane Benedito in November 2012, has been further remanded in custody by Nasinu Magistrate Charles Ratekele.

Pita Matairavula is co-charged with Sanita Laqenasici, Jona Davonu, Semesa Naduka and Filimone Catimaibulu.

Matairavula had applied for bail however Magistrate Ratakele refused the application this afternoon.

The magistrate said that when police officers went to Matairavula’s home to arrest him, they were told that he had gone to the shop. He said when they went to the shop, he was not there.

It was revealed in court that the police officers were then told that he went to the CID headquarters.

The magistrate said that Matairavula’s actions should not be overlooked.

The case has been adjourned to the 27th of this month.
