Second suspect in relation to drug trafficking to be produced in court tomorrow

The second suspect in the alleged drug trafficking investigations involving the suspended Fiji Airways flight attendant has been charged and will be produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The accused who is 29 years old, has been charged with one count of unlawful importation and exportation and one count of unlawful possession, manufacture, cultivation and supply contrary to the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.

Police say on the 23rd of December 2018, the accused is alleged to have without lawful authority facilitated in exporting of two parcels weighing to the total of 2.015 kilograms of cocaine and other illicit drugs.

Meanwhile, the accused who is a suspended Fiji Airways flight attendant, Frederick Epeli appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court earlier this week, after he allegedly facilitated in exporting two parcels weighing 2.015 kilograms of cocaine and other illicit drugs.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho had earlier highlighted that officers from the Criminal Investigations Department produced Epeli in court for his alleged involvement in the transportation of illicit substances on board our national carrier.

Qiliho says an investigation was launched by a special CID team after information was received about the alleged involvement of the airline staff member in the transportation of illicit substances.

The Commissioner says close cooperation between the Fiji Police and Fiji Airways resulted in the successful arrest of the accused person last Friday.
