Aurora Rogers lost her job as a civil engineer during the COVID-19 pandemic and says she uses her engineering skills in baking cakes as it is all about structures, patterns and being artistic.

Rogers operates her cakes and pastry business as ‘Meyaces’ says she is proud to be her own boss, although she does miss her professional job.

She says she grew her passion for baking when people started having an interest in her work which motivated her to improve her baking.

The 28-year-old says she mostly takes online orders of customized cakes but also sells her pastries on market days which gives her a great opportunity to expose what she now loves doing and meet people outside of her client base to support each other's work.

Rogers says she sometimes has to stay up late to meet her customers' demands, liaising and communicating with her customers.
