Rising truancy linked to drug issues – Principals Association

Truancy in schools has increased and factors such as drugs may be pulling students out of schools.

This has been highlighted by Fiji Principals Association President Kamlesh Prasad who says students getting involved in drugs or being used by people for drugs are some of the issues coming back to the classrooms and schools and it is a challenge.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Prasad says they have been getting feedback from other principals and they also have these issues back at their schools.

He says teachers need to work together and they also need to educate parents about this.

Prasad says they need to have regular meetings with the parents to guide them on how to look after their children so they are not used by people for drug activities.

The Association President adds they need to work together with parents, other NGOs especially the Department of Social Welfare and the public so they are able to work things out for the children of the country.
