People living in many parts of Suva, Samabula, Tamavua, Lami and surrounding areas are facing water cuts after there was a rupture on the Waimanu Raw Water Rising Main due to unplanned power fluctuations at the station.

The Water Authority of Fiji says the fault site of the Waimanu Raw Water Rising Main has been fully exposed and the extent of damages determined.

WAF says due to the severity of the damage sustained the tentative repair timeline is estimated at a minimum of 72 hours.

They say they are utilising their backup sources, the total inflow into Tamavua Water Treatment Plant has improved from 53 million litres to 67 million litres, however, this total inflow is still 3 million litres short of the total inflow requirement to meet production capacity.

WAF adds valve operations will be carried out to maintain levels and sustain system pressure until repairs can be completed.
