The Queensland Reds have won their first ever Super Rugby title, defeating seasoned campaigners the Crusaders 18 13 in Brisbane last night.
Show stopping tries from Will Genia and Digby Ioane proved the match winners for the Reds, overcoming Dan Carter’s first half try to break a 16 year wait for glory.
The Reds are only the second Australian team to clinch the southern hemisphere’s top franchise competition after the ACT Brumbies.
Coach Ewen McKenzie said they were confident from the beginning and message was clear at half time.
Reds Captain, James Horwill tried to savour the win having represented the Reds since the dark years of Super Rugby anonymity.
