Recycling on the Go Ambassadors have emphasised that education, awareness campaigns, and partnerships are essential for achieving long-term environmental impact.
This comes as the second Recycling on the Go Ambassadors Leadership Forum, held at Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, brought together student leaders committed to revolutionising waste management practices in their schools and communities.
The event is an initiative of Pacific Recycling Foundation in partnership with Tanoa Hotel Group, Swire Shipping and Tourism Fiji. PRF say students highlighted the vital role of communities in driving environmental sustainability, stressing the importance of including locals in the planning and execution of waste management initiatives.
They say student leadership was another key theme, with ambassadors showcasing how young leaders can inspire their peers and communities to adopt the best recycling practices.
They add the forum also explored the roles of government, the private sector, and development partners in advancing environmental sustainability. PRF says students presented ideas for government policies to support recycling programs, including funding opportunities, national waste management frameworks, and initiatives that advocate waste segregation.
They say the private sector and development partners were also urged to support grassroots-based innovative solutions and provide resources to expand the reach of programs like ROG.
PRF also highlighted that this year’s forum featured five ambassadors from Jai Narayan College, Jasper Williams High School, Nadi Sangam Primary School, and Queen Victoria School.
They were also joined by the players of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua who contributed to the discussions.
