Poverty will continue to be an issue in Labasa unless there are realistic policies put in place.
Labasa Mayor Doctor Pradeep Singh said the statistics recently released by Economist Doctor Warden Narsey gives an insight into what is the issue on the ground and policy makers need to go out to the communities to understand what people are going through.
Meanwhile, Singh said that for the living standards to be raised, more job opportunities need to be made in an effort to reduce the number of people living under the poverty line.
The report revealed that 53% of the people in Vanua Levu are living below the poverty line which is the highest compared to other areas.
