Rabuka says there was a light at the end of their 33 years of struggles when workers of the Vatukoula Gold Mines went on strike on February 27th, 1991.

He says the workers had to go through many challenges over the past three decades.

The Prime Minister says the Coalition Government is committed to addressing the needs of the people.

Meanwhile, Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh says the 185 members of the union will be receiving their compensation in mid-August, while the 183 who went on strike and have passed away will need to be reviewed through the legal process. The Ministry of Employment has allocated a $9.2 million payout announced during the 2024/2025 National Budget.

Each miner will receive $10,000 as compensation by August this year and an additional payment of $15,000 reserved for next year.
