The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has confirmed that it has assisted the Fiji Police Force at times in apprehending people under the Public Emergency Regulation.
However, RFMF’s Land Force Commander Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga has told Radio NZ that all investigations in relation to people breaching the PER is being handled by the police.
Colonel Tikoitoga has also rejected suggestions of alleged beatings.
He clarified that minimum force may have been used for certain people who resisted arrest.
Colonel Tikoitoga said people need to understand that those that follow the law and PER are not being taken in for questioning.
He said the most important thing is for people to follow the law.
