The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions has called on the interim government to provide subsidies on essential items whose prices have increased recently.
General Secretary Attar Singh said it is the responsibility of the government to control the inflation rate in the country and provide some relief to the poor soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Public Service Association said they are saddened and concerned in the increase in the Cost of Living, however, the increase is mainly from outside forces.
General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said that the FPSA have already filed Cost of Leaving Adjustment claims for its members across the 21 entities that it represents.
Singh adds that they would continue to push for an increase in worker's pay until something is done as it is very hard these days for people to put food on the table as they money continues to be drained due to the increase in the cost of living.
