Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the national competition for the design of the new Fijian flag and the National Panel to look at the proposed designs will be announced later this month.

While speaking in parliament today, Bainimarama said that the process to design and choose the new flag will be based on broad consultations and consensus.

Bainimarama stressed that the government does not see the change in the national flag as a distraction but it sees it as an inspiration.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that he will write a letter to the Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa inviting her to nominate members to the 10 to 15 member National Panel to look at the proposed designs.

He again called on the Opposition to stop playing politics as many people have already come forward supporting the change of the Fijian flag after the announcement.

Bainimarama also confirmed that the government will table a proposed law in parliament on the usage of the Fijian flag and its display.
