The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry says he and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle hope to meet as many Fijians as possible over the next two days.

Following the traditional welcome ceremony at Albert Park this evening, Prince Harry addressed the hundreds of people that gathered to welcome them.

The loudest Bula could also be heard at Albert Park after Prince Harry received a bowl of kava.

But was even more significant for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was that they were able to stand and wave to the crowd from the balcony at the Grand Pacific Hotel where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip did the same in 1953. Dancing, singing and cheering showcased the excitement people had as they poured in numbers at Albert Park.

More than 500 students and more than 1,000 people braved the windy conditions and the rain.

Cheers and a round of applause rang across Albert Park as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle disembarked their vehicle.

Earlier today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were received upon their arrival at the Nausori Airport by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and British High Commissioner to Fiji, Melanie Hopkins as well as RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa, Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho and Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa were also at the Nausori Airport to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry also inspected the 100 RFMF and Navy officers that were part of Guard of Honour.

Hundreds of people waited along Kings Highway this afternoon hoping to get a glimpse of the couple while others gathered at Albert Park hours before the royal couple arrived.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also met with President Jioji Konrote at Borron House this afternoon before they made their way to Albert Park.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now attending the State Dinner hosted by President Jioji Konrote.
