Police looking into the matter where some villagers of Kia Island were allegedly threatened by unknown persons
, Ana Naisoro says they have also received reports of 4 divers who were illegally fishing near Kia Island on Monday night.

Police are looking into a matter where a group of unknown people approached some villagers on Kia Island on Thursday night allegedly swore at the villagers and threatened them.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says they have also received reports of 4 divers who were illegally fishing near Kia Island on Monday night.

She says they were caught by men from Kia Island.

Naisoro says all their fishing nets were confiscated and the divers also allegedly assaulted the villagers.

She say a villager allegedly sustained burns.

However it is not clear at this stage whether the two incidents are linked.

Naisoro adds that police is working with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji and Fisheries Ministry to resolve the issues of illegal fishing near Kia Island.
