Police contact Facebook to remove fake profile of Prime Minister
The conversation between the fake profile of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimrama and a Facebook user

The Fiji Police Force has contacted facebook to remove a fake profile of Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

Fijivillage had contacted Bainimarama and Police after a person set up the fake profile of the Prime Minister and started adding people on messenger.

The person then asked them for their financial details to qualify for loans.

One of the people who was added on messenger felt suspicious and contacted Fijivillage.

We also sent the screenshot messages to Bainimarama and Police.

The Cyber Crime Unit has now contacted facebook to get the fake profile removed.

When asked on how Police are addressing the issues regarding fake facebook profiles, Police say that there are many fake profiles on social media with the aim of defaming others or for deceitful financial gains.

Police say social media users should always be cautious when exchanging information which is the general rule about internet use and that one should not divulge too much personal information.

We have also asked Police how many people have been taken to task.

A response is expected later.
