Hundreds of people were stranded on the vessel Lomaiviti Princess 3 for hours after it encountered a mechanical problem at sea as it was on its way from Kadavu to Suva.
In a video currently being widely shared on social media, the Lomaiviti Princess 3 was seen being towed by the Lomaiviti Princess 7.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya says they left Kadavu at 8.30 Saturday night, and the engine died close to midnight.
The Minister was in Kadavu over the weekend to support her provincial team, who played against Malolo in the Vodafone Vanua Cup Championship at Namalata District School ground.
She says there was no electricity or water supply, and they had to sit in the dark for about 5 hours.
Tabuya says the Lomaiviti Princess 7 arrived yesterday morning, and towed their boat to Suva.
She adds there will be a letter sent to the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji and the Minister for Transport in relation to the accident they encountered.
Meanwhile, Goundar Shipping Services confirmed that the Lomaiviti Princess 3 encountered a mechanical problem while travelling from Kadavu to Suva.
