Passengers Suspicion Saves Lives

11 passengers got off at Lami Town one of them was my wife and her relatives because she said she did not feel right about the bus.

Those were the words of Sakiusa Soli one of the passengers and survivors on the bus that caught fire last Thursday night claiming 10 lives.

Speaking on a talkback show on our vernacular station Viti FM, Soli said when the bus, which came 4 hours late, left Korovou, there were 6 people standing because there was no space to sit.

He added at Lami Town his wife then said she was getting off because she was hearing weird noises from the bus engine, she managed to convince her sister, son and other relatives to get off with her, 11 in total.

Soli said the fire started after passing Sigatoka town, behind the driver and before the first seat adding that the driver could not stop the bus no matter how hard he tried and the only thing he could do was bump a lamp post after Naevuevu village, to stop it.

Police and Fire Investigations are expected to start proper tomorrow with the help of Forensic Investigators from Australia.
