Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said it would be wise to have the proposed review of the Great Council of Chiefs when parliamentary democracy returns to Fiji.
Qarase said any changes to the acts have to go through the parliamentary process as that is stated in the constitution.
Qarase refused to comment on the appointment of the Tui Mavana Ratu Josefa Basulu as a member of the GCC Review Committee.
Meanwhile, former GCC member and Sau Kei Mualevu, Ratu Josefa Basulu, is delighted that the Interim Fijian Affairs Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau has appointed him as a member of the taskforce which will be responsible to carry out a thorough review of the Great Council of Chiefs before the new council members are appointed.
Ratu Basulu who is the Tui Mavana said it is a call by the government of the day which he will respect and will assist in every possible way to fulfill the President's mandate.
He said the 6 member committee will meet today to discuss the terms of reference. Those who are appointed to the committee are Ratu Tua'kitau Cokanauto, Ratu Talemo Ratakele, Ro Epeli Mataitini, Ratu Jone Nakautoga, Tui Mavana Ratu Josefa Basulu and Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo to be the secretary.
