“We will find the drugs”.
This is the warning from the Chief Operations Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu as operations step up its focus on those involved in drug-related activities.
This follows a raid conducted at the home of a 42-year-old man in Lautoka on Thursday after information was received by the Western Division Operations team of the suspect’s alleged involvement in drug-related activities.
The assistance of Water Authority of Fiji officials was sought when officers suspected he had quickly disposed of the drugs and the process of extracting the parcels from the sewer lines eventually led to the discovery of close to 30 parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
The leaves have since been analyzed and confirmed to be marijuana and the 42-year-old and a 31-year-old woman who was also arrested at the scene have been charged with one count each of being in possession of illicit drugs.
The two will be produced in the Lautoka Magistrates Court tomorrow.
ACP Tudravu says drug dealers will always think of a way to beat law enforcement and this case is a good example of how far they will go to bring those involved to justice, and they will reach out to every government department, private and public entities to achieve their fight against drugs.
He says it is also imperative that members of the public come forward to help them because our society is such that people always know what is happening within their communities and they should call Police if they have information about illegal activities.
