It was all joy and smiles for the people of Rotuma as Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama officially opened their new Rotuma Chip Seal Runway on the island earlier today.

While speaking at the event, Bainimarama assured the people of Rotuma that the $12.8 million investment by Airports Fiji Limited will boost economic development on the island.

Bainimarama says that this development will ensure that Rotuma realises it's full potential.

Bainimarama also stressed that the opposition are doubters and distractions to development.

Meanwhile, AFL's Executive Chairman Faiz Khan highlighted the proud investment made by the company as it will now bring bigger flights to Rotuma.

Khan says that in the past Rotuma has been serviced by the Twin Otter which can only carry around 6 to 7 passengers however in the near future they will benefit from flights such as the ATR‑72.

Khan says that this will also help reduce flight time from Nadi to Rotuma and return.

The students at the event were also treated to a tour onboard the ATR72.

Prime Minister Bainimarama also highlighted that this type of development has proven the opposition wrong.
