Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka has agreed with Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu as with many responsible citizens on the call to release the Commission of Inquiry report on FICAC but he has to brief President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and the final report only got to him this week.
That is Rabuka’s comments to fijivillage News.
Seruiratu has called upon this government to immediately release the full Commission of Inquiry report.
He says transparency is the bedrock of our democratic system, and every citizen deserves unfettered access to the facts that shape our collective governance.
The Opposition Leader says withholding such a report not only undermines public trust but also obstructs our national progress towards informed accountability.
Seruiratu says with the imminent introduction of the Code of Conduct Bill and the Transparency Bill, this is a pivotal moment for the government to demonstrate that its commitment to openness is genuine and far more than mere rhetoric.
He says the release of the COI report would clearly affirm that forthcoming reforms are built on a solid foundation of accountability, reinforcing the public’s belief that the government is dedicated to concrete actions rather than simply offering lip service to transparency.
Meanwhile Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry says if the Prime Minister is sincere in wanting to cleanse his government of all the rot and the self-serving elements that have brought it into disrepute, he must release the Commission of Inquiry report and act on its key recommendations.
Chaudhry says the Prime Minister and his team have had two weeks now to unravel the 400 pages of the report and all the legalese therein.
He says public interest in the findings of the COI is very high.
