The appointment of the Fiji Media Council Chairman, Daryl Tarte to the National Council for Building A Better Fiji has come under fire by an NGO.
Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Director, Angie Heffernan said Tarte's appointment is a conflict of interest with the Media Council's objective of safeguarding the media's independence.
In his defense, Tarte said that he accepted the invitation to join the National Council after consultations with the members of the Fiji Media Council.
Tarte also added that his participation in the National Council for Building a Better Fiji does not hinder the conduct of news organisations in the country.
