Over 550 families receive Diwali hampers through Westpac Fiji and Rotary Club partnership

Over 550 families receive Diwali hampers through Westpac Fiji and Rotary Club partnership

More than 550 families across Fiji will be celebrating a brighter Diwali this year, thanks to Westpac Fiji’s annual Diwali hamper initiative delivered in partnership with the Rotary Club of Fiji.

Westpac says each hamper, valued at approximately $60, contains essential grocery items and sweets to help families celebrate Diwali with comfort and dignity.

They say volunteers described the experience as uplifting, seeing firsthand the smiles and gratitude of those receiving the hampers. Westpac says initiatives like this continue to strengthen community bonds and highlight the impact of kindness and cooperation.

Avinash Chand from Navula, shared how the hamper his family received in 2024 was a blessing.

The Navula resident explained how his family of five was beyond grateful especially as he also cares for his elderly mother, who is in her 70s.

Chand says he comes from a family that is not very well off and so the Diwali hamper was a blessing from God.

He adds he does a little farming and carpentry work to earn money for his family, so it was a big help.

Westpac Fiji Chief Executive Shane Smith says the initiative reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and cultural celebration.

Smith further says the initiative continues to make a meaningful difference for families facing financial hardship, spreading hope and joy during the Festival of Lights.

He adds that since 2020, Westpac and Rotary have worked hand in hand to support households most in need, distributing over 2,250 hampers across the country over the past five years.

Smith says Westpac believes in the power of community and giving back.

Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset President, Ravikash Chand, highlights how collaboration has amplified their ability to reach more families.

He adds that this year’s distribution was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset through Rotary’s wider network, with Westpac employees and Rotarians volunteering to deliver hampers in Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, Labasa, and Savusavu.

He says as Fiji celebrated Diwali—the festival symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness—Westpac and Rotary’s joint effort brought that message to life by lighting up the hearts and homes of hundreds of families across the nation.
