Over 3,000 still at evac centres

As damage assessments by the government teams continue to ascertain the cost of devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Mick, it has been revealed that more than 3,000 people remain at various evacuation centres around the country.

According to the Ministry of Information, a total of 71 evacuation centres remain open around Fiji, with 63 centres open in the Central division.

2,660 people are at evacuation centres in the Central division, 347 people in the 5 evacuation centres in the West and 226 people are in the 3 evacuation centres in the Eastern division.

Assessments are yet to be completed on who needs assistance in terms of rations.

The damage assessment for agricultural crops is also underway.

According to the ministry, water supply has normalized in most areas except for areas in Navua and Deuba where power is yet to be restored.

Priority areas for water restoration include the water pumping stations and sewerage stations, hospitals and the Central Business Districts with 90 percent of the consumers in Suva receiving water supply.
