A 4-year-old girl has lost her life after her mother allegedly tied herself up with the young girl and drove their car off the road into the Rewa River last night.
The 35-year-old woman allegedly drove the car into the river in Kasavu after leaving their home in Vuci South.
Bystanders quickly got into the river to save the two.
The mother and daughter were taken to the Nausori hospital where the 4-year-old girl was pronounced dead.
The 35-year-old woman has been discharged and is now in Police custody.
When questioned by Fijivillage, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the case is being treated as alleged attempted double suicide however she says murder has not been ruled out.
The woman’s husband has alleged that she had called him while driving with their daughter saying that she will take both their lives.
