Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase said all the information in relation to the SDL party's investment company, Duavata Initiative is with the Registrar of Companies and anyone who wants to know about the company can enquire with them.
While responding to the statement made by Commodore Bainimarama on Village earlier today, Qarase said they did not breach any procedures when the Duavata Initiative was formed and its operations have been conducted legally to date.
Qarase also maintains that only God can eradicate corruption and he has rubbished the statements by Bainimarama that he got rid of corruption after overthrowing the SDL led government.
However the Interim Prime Minister has called on Qarase to stop leaving it to God to get rid of corruption in Fiji.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama said Qarase keeps bringing up the issue that only God can eradicate corruption, which is only an excuse that nothing can be done about it.
Concerns were raised way back in 2003 when revelations were made that the SDL party had formed a company called the Duavata Initiative. Back then it was revealed that the directors of the company were Qarase, ousted Finance Minister, Ratu Jone Kubuabola, ousted Foreign Minister and Kaliopate Tavola. It was also revealed then that former Tourism Minister, Pita Nacuva and Commerce Minister, Tom Vuetilovoni lent their names to the list of five subscribers who wished to form the company.
It was highlighted then it was improper for government ministers to hold positions in a company which would try to raise funds for the party as conflicts of interest may occur, with the government ministers obliged to do certain things for certain individuals if they made big donations.
