No tsunami warning in place and no need to evacuate

There is no tsunami warning for Fiji or tsunami drill for evacuation in any parts of the country.

Fijivillage has been receiving many calls after the emergency tsunami sirens started going off in the last hour in Lami and Suva.

Many people say they are concerned and were ready to evacuate.

Fijivillage has sought clarification from the National Disaster Management Office on why the sirens are on. We have been told that the Mineral Resources Department is conducting a communications test.

This is being done without any prior alerts which has caused panic in a number of areas.

We advise you that there is no need for alarm as there is no tsunami warning in place.
