No intentions to dissolve sugar unions
The Sugar Ministry said it does not have plans to dissolve the two unions in the sugar industry which includes the National Farmers Union and the Fiji Cane Growers Association.

Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said it is up to the unions to decide their future in the industry as government has only made the decision to dissolve the Sugar Cane Growers Council in the next three months.

Meanwhile, the President for the National Farmers Union Sanjit Maharaj said they will continue to provide services to the cane farmers.

He believes that after the council is dissolved there should be another institution to look after farmers affairs.

Another Union, Fiji Cane Growers Association General Secretary Bala Dass said they will continue to protect the farmers’ interests.
