2008 is expected to bring some relief to Civil Servants as the Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has confirmed that there will be no further pay cuts in the Public Service this year.
Speaking to Village News Chaudhry said the Interim Government had to implement a 5 percent pay cut last year to stabilize Government expenditure which they have achieved.
He assures civil servants that there is no need for any further pay cut.
However, Permanent Secretary for Public Service Taina Tagicakibau confirms that any further restoration is currently on hold after the retirement age in the civil service was retained at 60 years by the High court.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary Kuini Lutua said that they still hopeful that the remaining 4% will be given out as soon as possible.
