The Methodist Church of Fiji has today stressed that faith cannot be compromised and it will continue to oppose the draft People's Charter proposal to have inter-faith sharing of spiritualities.
When questioned on whether the Methodist Church approves of the sermons like the one delivered by one of its ministers in Naganivatu, Naitasiri, earlier this month, Church General Secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said they cannot work on the middle ground.
The Methodist Church minister had told the congregation in Naitasiri to reject the Charter.
He said if people accept the Charter then they would accept, allow and would have to worship Hindu Gods like Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.
Although this is not in the draft Charter, the Methodist Church minister kept saying this from the pulpit.
Today, Reverend Waqairatu stressed that they cannot work on compromising with other religions as it would be a sin.
Reverend Waqairatu also disagrees with the proposals to have inter-faith services and the teaching of the comparative study of major religions in schools.
Meanwhile, Interim Lands Minister Netani Sukanaivalu who is a staunch Methodist, said the draft Charter is not un-Christian but is a document to unite Fiji and to ensure that every person irrespective of their race, colour or religion have equal opportunities.
