It was a night of celebration, singing, meeting athletes and officials from our Pacific family, and appreciating cultures and diversity during the official opening of the Pacific Games 2023 in Honiara last night.

The highlight of the night was the huge roar and cheers from the crowd when Team Fiji made their entrance into the stadium as they were welcomed with open arms, especially from the home crowd.

But before they marched out, Team Fiji shared the bleachers with Team Tonga and the Fijian athletes and officials did what we Fijians do best, and that was singing hymns while they waited to make their entrance.

Whilst in the stadium, some of the Fijian athletes were seen dancing to the sound of the music as they entertained other teams in the most Fijian way possible.

The games will resume today with Team Fiji featuring in a few sports including swimming, basketball, rugby league 9s and volleyball.
