After two deferments, workers in various sectors around the country can expect an increase in their earnings as the new Wage Order will now come into effect from May this year.
Wages Council chairman Father Kevin Barr said it was disappointing that the Wage Order was not implemented throughout last year.
Father Barr also revealed that he will request Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to consider bringing forward the implementation date of the new Wage Order to bring some relief to workers around the country.
The new Wage Order was initially expected to be implemented in July last year but was deferred to October and then to May this year.
