Newly sworn in SODELPA parliamentarian Jone Seniloli says the current electoral system is unfair as it allows candidates with a small number of votes to be elected to parliament based on the votes of very popular candidates.

Seniloli who got 1,683 votes in the 2018 election replaces Lynda Tabuya.

Tabuya has joined the People’s Alliance Party.

In his maiden speech, Seniloli says it is important to have multiple constituencies instead of one because they connect elected representatives to members of the constituency.

He says it allows them to be accountable to the people that have elected them and the election battle would easier to manage and be more relatable to people.

Seniloli who is from Tailevu South says he contested the 2018 general election with the aim to bridge the gap between rural and urban development.

He says urban bias still exists.
