Labasa has a new Mayor who comes from the Fiji Labour Party but he is definitely not the choice of the FLP Leader as it is alleged that Mahendra Chaudhry was stopping him from contesting the election last night.
The Fiji Labour Party Leader has this morning confirmed that newly elected Labasa Mayor, Councillor Shivlal Nagindas will lose his FLP membership.
Mahendra Chaudhry said Councillor Nagindas has breached the Party Constitution by contesting the Mayoral Election last night despite a clear directive by the Party that another Fiji Labour Party Councillor will contest the election.
Chaudhry says Councillor Nagindas will be sacked from the FLP.
Shivlal Nagindas, a labour councillor was elected after his name was picked from a hat by the town clerk as he and another councillor were tied at 6 votes each.
Councillor Paulini Waqani-bolo was elected the Deputy Mayor.
Fijivillage News has established that some of the Labour Party councillors voted for Nagindas.
