The Interim Minister for Transport will soon Commission an Inquiry into bus operations around the country and their safety measures inlight of the tragic bus accident in Malaqereqere which claimed ten lives last Thursday.
Ministry Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said the Inquiry will involve a review of the LTA Act on the review of all buses to ensure they meet all safety and OHS requirements.
And this afternoon the LTA board met and endorsed that the review of all buses will now be conducted every six months and not once a year which was the practice in the past.
The Fiji Bus Operators Association President Pyara Singh said he has called an Executive Council meeting on Wednesday to discuss the tragic incident with all bus operators and the steps that need to be taken. He said they will comment after the meeting.
Meanwhile, the National Road Safety Council CEO Akapusi Tuifagalele said they welcome the Commission of Inquiry into all bus operations which will ensure the safety and security of passengers.
