Two years on since the December 5th takeover in 2006, Non-Government Organizations are calling for Fiji to return to democratic rule.
However there is a difference of opinion as some want the race based electoral system to be scrapped while others want the interim government to go to elections as soon as possible without any changes.
The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre believes that things have not gone right at all since the events of December 2006.
FWCC Coordinator, Shamima Ali:
Citizens Constitutional Forum Chief Executive Reverend Akuila Yabaki thinks otherwise as he feels that the race based electoral system should be scrapped, and it is time that people think about the best way forward as a nation.
Yabaki said with the global recession and rising world prices, everything cannot be blamed on what has transpired over the last two years.
ECREA's Director Chantelle Khan said there are a number of positives over the past year.
However Khan said they are also concerned about a few issues.
The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions said things are not going well and urgent steps need to be taken by the interim government.
General Secretary, Attar Singh:
Singh said nothing has gone well over the past two years.
However Deputy Secretary for Information and Military spokesperson Major Neumi Leweni said that they have made a lot of progress since December 2006 and the people, mainly in the rural areas are finally seeing development.
