NFA urges the public to report fires on 910, not social media

The National Fire Authority (NFA) has raised concerns about unreported fire incidents across the country, highlighting that many people are taking live videos on Facebook instead of reporting the incidents to the relevant authorities.

NFA CEO Puamau Sowani emphasized this in response to a video of a fire incident posted on social media, where the location of the fire could not be identified.

Sowani says unreported fire incidents pose a serious risk of escalating into major house fires within communities, and all structural fires must be reported to the NFA by calling 910.

He stresses that people should stay on the line when reporting incidents to provide accurate details about the location, enabling firefighters to respond promptly.

The CEO also noted that platforms like Facebook and TikTok are not appropriate for reporting fire incidents, as the NFA does not monitor them.

While people focus on taking live videos, they often neglect to call 910 for immediate assistance.
