The Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council has stated that the figures released by the NCBBF teams in Vanubalavu that 53 percent of the people have supported the draft People's Charter, is accurate.
Colonel Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara who is also the RFMF's Commanding Officer of the 3FIR Unit, said Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase should just accept the people's decision on the Charter.
Colonel Mara has also dismissed suggestions by Qarase that the response forms on the draft Charter may be tampered with.
Meanwhile Qarase, who hails from Mavana in Vanuabalavu, stresses that the NCBBF's statement that 53 percent of the people in Vanuabalavu have supported the draft Charter, is misleading.
Qarase said the villages in Vanuabalavu only accepted the sevusevu from the Charter teams. He said this does not mean that they support the People's Charter.
The Charter consultation team is expected to visit the islands of Matuku, Moala, Oneata and Tavea this week.
Meanwhile, all public forums on the Draft People's Charter in all Divisions has been put on hold for now.
This has been confirmed by NCBBF member Jone Dakuvula, who said a meeting is scheduled to take place this week to work out the new dates for the next public forums for the next two months.
Dakuvula said the extension given to them to carry out the consultation work till mid-December, is the reason for the need to revise the schedules of all the public forums.
However, Dakuvula said this only applies to the public forums and not the door to door consultations currently taking place around the country.
