More than 7,000 people have received free medical assistance from the Sanjeevani Medical Centre in Muanikau, Suva since its opening in April last year.
This was highlighted by the Director of the Sanjeevani Medical Centre Dr. Krupali Tappoo.
Dr. Tappoo says they will continue to bring visiting medical experts from overseas to improve the health care provided to Fijians.
She says that a team from an Australian Non-Governmental Organization called Health In Kind was part of the team of over 70 Doctors, health professionals, One Fiji Volunteers and members of Sai Prema Foundation that spent their last weekend providing free medical services to over 200 people in Ucunivanua District School in Tailevu.
The Foundation has in the past three years has also conducted over 70 free heart surgeries for the children, more than 300 children have received free heart screening in the rural villages while around 240 children have received free heart screening at the newly opened Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Screening Centre.
Meanwhile, the South Pacific’s first-ever free children’s heart hospital will be built in Fiji.
The Sai Prema Foundation of Fiji in conjunction with the Fijian government and the Ministry of health are working together on this project.
The Shree Satya Sai Hospital will provide all surgeries free of charge and there will be no bill counter in the hospital.
