In Fiji it is estimated that we diagnose more than 1000 cancer cases each year.

This was highlighted by the Chief Medical Adviser Dr Jemesa Tudravu at the World Cancer Day – Landmark Lighting event at the GPH last night.

He says the World Health Organization's cancer country profile for Fiji shows that in 2018 more than 1,500 cases were diagnosed.

Dr Tudravu further says that cancer is also being estimated for 13.5 percent of all pre-mature NCD deaths in Fiji.

He adds that the Ministry of Health is currently taking consultation on the new cancer prevention and control plan in Fiji and they hope to complete this soon.

Dr Tudravu says we should not allow discrimination against cancer patients.
