More than 100 people turned out in numbers to be part of the International Yoga Day

More than 100 people turned up at Albert Park in Suva today to be a part of the International Yoga Day celebration.

While officiating at the event, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says Yoga is not just about exercise, but is also a way to discover the sense of oneness within ourselves with the world and with the nature around us.

Rabuka says that Yoga embodies this value by promoting peace, harmony, emotional stability and physical fitness which are essential for the well-being of our citizens.

Rabuka says the People's Coalition Government considered that it is their essential duty to protect, promote and support the well-being of all citizens of Fiji.

He says the crisis of non-communicable disease has constituted a national emergency in recent decades and it has become the biggest killer in Fiji, causing thousands of deaths every year.

The Prime Minister says the practice of Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action and it always seeks an approach to our health and our well-being.

He adds that the Yoga approach reminds us to take a step back to look at our problems with a clear and focused mind and is a good opportunity to connect ourselves and each other fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual reflection.

The theme for this year’s celebration is Yoga for Self and Society.
