More heavy rain is expected throughout the weekend until Monday.

There is still a heavy rain warning in force for Viti Levu, the eastern half of Vanua Levu which includes areas from Labasa, Savusavu, Seaqaqa and Taveuni, and Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau and the Lomaiviti Group.

All this rain is being brought by a trough of low pressure.

A flash flood alert is in force for low lying areas and small streams of the eastern half of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and low lying areas along Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Navua to Nabukevesi and for the low lying areas in the upper Rewa Catchment.

People living in low lying areas should take the necessary precautions now.

The NDMO says due to continuous rain, there will be high soil saturation, surface runoff and the possibility of landslides.

93.0 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Sigatoka, 132.5 millimetres of rain was recorded in Bukuya in Ba and 59.5 millimetres of rain was recorded in Navua.
