More focus on efficient transportation of water to drought affected families

The Northern Commissioner’s office says that they will not use the fund from government to purchase some water tanks but will focus more on the efficient transportation of water to those families who are badly affected by the drought.

Commissioner Jovesa Vocea says that they received an additional $149,000 to take them through January.

Vocea says this fund will be utilised for emergency water supply to the families.

He also stresses that people should also use River or creek water for other activities.

Vocea reveals that they have already utilised $722,000 for carting water in the Northern Division.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau says they are doing their best to provide enough water to every family who is badly affected by the drought.

Tagicakibau says they are looking after more than 20,000 families and reaching all the families at one time is not an easy task.

He says they are now giving 20 liters of water for each person per day which may vary if the dry season continues.

Nadi Weather office Director, Ravind Kumar says they will release the latest assessment result soon on the drought period for Western and Northern Division.
