More evacuation centres open in the West

144 people from 60 households are currently taking shelter in three different evacuation centres in the Western Division due to flash flooding.

The Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office says people are taking shelter Saint Andrews Primary School, Saioni Methodist Church in Navuso and Korovuto Primary School in Nadi.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, says they are currently monitoring the situation.

People living in Tavua are also advised that the Tavua Primary School is open as an evacuation centre as rain continues tonight.

Tavua Police Station says heavy rain over the past few days has caused flooding in areas like Yaladro Place and Lakalaka Road.

The Western Division Command and Coordination Centre can be contacted on 9905457, should anyone need assistance in moving to higher ground.
