As the mobile phone war begins today, the battle has even come down to who has the best network and reception for mobile phones
in the country.
With Digicel Fiji launching today, they say that they have 95 percent coverage for Fiji's population and for the first time they have mobile phone network coverage all the way from Suva to Nadi.
Digicel Fiji CEO, John Delves said they are known as the monopoly breakers and they now have the bigger and better network.
Digicel CEO for the Pacific, Vanessa Slowey said they will continue to bring in new technology and they are starting off with almost 200 base stations.
However the Managing Director for Vodafone Fiji, Aslam Khan said they also have 95 percent coverage and he said they are ready to extend their network in the near future.
And with free phones, free credit for text and calls and cheap deals on phone and call rates being the order of the day today, Khan said competition is good and will benefit Fiji as a whole.
A major issue which has already been addressed is that they have managed to secure an inter-connectivity agreement with Vodafone Fiji. This sees Digicel phone users being able to call people who are using Vodafone and vice versa.
