After continuous concerns have been raised regarding the drainage issues in Navua, the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways has conducted assessments to identify priority areas for intervention and is coordinating with relevant stakeholders to implement necessary measures to alleviate flooding and improve drainage systems.
The Ministry say as part of their commitment, comprehensive plans for proper drainage in the affected areas are underway, involving plans of infrastructure upgrades, maintenance activities, and community engagement initiatives aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of drainage solutions.
The Ministry also says that challenges related to blocked and flooded roads during rainfall are concerning which impacts the accessibility and safety of residents, drivers, and students, therefore the Waterways Division has undertaken comprehensive planning for drainage maintenance for the well-being of the community members.
However, they say the timeline for implementing proper drainage measures may vary depending on factors such as the extent of infrastructure required, resource availability, and coordination with other ongoing projects.
