The Lands Ministry is now looking at the availability of land as well as the fast tracking of land approval to help boost production.
That is the revelation by the Permanent Secretary for Lands Ministry LT. Colonel Neumi Leweni following a recent workshop where Academic Professor Vijay Naidu revealed that one reason for high poverty levels in the country was due to the lack of land.
Col. Leweni said that Government has taken the idea on board and are now in the process of identifying land to be chanelled into this area.
When asked by Fijivillage about his new posting, Leweni said he will look at the whole structure of the Ministry.
He also revealed that one of his main job would be the collection of the $10 million arrears owed to the Government in land leases.
According to Leweni, these arrears date back to 10 years while some are recent and a committee is being set up to look at means of recovering this debt.
